WILLAPA BAY

The contest is open to all Pacific County residents.

Submissions must be original, unpublished, and un-produced one act plays.

There will be two author age categories:

          18 and up—two plays will be selected and produced

          17 and below—one play will be selected and produced

Authors may submit more than one entry, but each entry must be mailed separately.

Plays submitted must meet the following guidelines:

Minimum of 20 minutes, maximum of 45 minutes in length

          Maximum of 8 speaking characters

          Extensive set/scenery and prop-heavy shows are discouraged

The play must be in proper stage-play format and must be typed in a 14-point standard font with pages numbered, double spaced between characters’ dialogues, 3-hole punched and fastened in a soft, flat folder with brads (tangs).

One typewritten, bound copy should be submitted.  Two title pages must be included:  one bound with the play and the other unbound.  The bound title page shall contain only the title of the play.   No other information may appear on this page.  The unbound title page should contain:

          Title of the play

The author’s name

Address

Telephone number

Email address if available

Age or age group

The following signed and dated statement: 

“I hereby certify that the play, (title of play), is my own original

work and no part of it has been copied or taken from another source.” 

All this information must appear nowhere on the bound manuscript.  Author’s names will not be made known to the judges.

Scripts will be returned only if adequate postage is supplied on a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Deadline for submission is November 15, 2008.  Entries must be postmarked by that date.

No entry may be withdrawn or revised after submission.

Judging will be by a panel of five members of the Willapa Players.  Their decision will be final.

The winners will be announced after December 15, 2008.

Winners agree their plays will be offered royalty-free to Willapa Players for the first calendar year following the contest.  Willapa Players also reserve the right to photograph and videotape winning plays without paying royalties to the author.

Three winning plays will be produced as the winter production by the Willapa Players in March 2009 at the Hannan Playhouse located at 518 Eighth Street, Raymond, Washington.  (not a mailing address)

While there are no restrictions on subject matter, theme or style, it must be remembered that this is a stage production, not a film, TV or radio play, and must be suitable for audience members of all ages.

No written or oral critique will be given on plays submitted.

All entries will receive a certificate of participation.
